Good Morning, San Jose!
The southern Bay Area got a 5:24 AM wakeup call this morning. From the preliminary information, it looks like this was along the Calaveras Fault, and a rather shallow strike-slip event. Mercalli intensities across the region seem to be mostly in the III-IV range, so this wasn't more than a good rattle for most people. The USGS gives about a 5-10% chance that this is a foreshock to a larger earthquake. If, as is more likely, this is the mainshock, the largest aftershock can be expected to be around a modest 3.6 or so.
