Alberto Won't Make Hurricane

Dry air got there before any new convection came up, and it looks like Alberto will be coming ashore as a tropical storm with 65 mph winds. Hurricane status was close for a while, even with an eye starting to form, but no cigar. It looks like Alberto will plow through northern Florida and southern Georgia as a tropical storm before slowly decaying back into a depression over the Carolinas. Once Alberto makes it through to the Atlantic, he will cease to be a tropical system, but a shot of frontal energy should convert him into a respectable, but not strong, extratropical storm that will move quickly up the East Coast. Florida has already been seeing much of the wind and rain ahead of the landfall.
