Aleutian Shakers

A pretty strong earthquake cluster is underway in the Rat Islands right now. This is one of the most seismically active places on Earth, and clusters like this are not entirely unusual. Right now it looks like a magnitude 6.3 mainshock with magnitude 4.8 and 6.1 aftershocks, although the former is a bit further afield than a typical aftershock, and the second is close enough in size to the mainshock to call this a cluster. The quakes show up clearly here on the Crater Lake, OR seismograph. Because this is basically the middle of nowhere, no major damage is expected. Even though these are pretty large quakes, they are still far too small to generate a hazardous tsunami.
