Daniel gets really impressive / Beryl brushing Cape Cod
While Beryl continues to weaken, she is beginning to bring tropical storm force winds to Massachussetts. Beryl is a 50 mph tropical storm right now, and the strongest winds will stay offshore as only the northwest quadrant of the storm passes over land. This shouldn't be an official landfall for Beryl, as the center of circulation will never reach the coast.
On the other side of the North American continent, Daniel has become a classic annular Category 4 hurricane. An "annular hurricane" is defined by its large and stable eye. For poorly understood reasons, a hurricane like Daniel will sometimes form a stable eye around 25 to 40 miles across. Once a hurricane enters this phase, it won't go through the usual intensity fluctuations and eyewall replacements that a hurricane normally goes through. An annular hurricane can maintain Category 4 or even Category 5 intensity almost indefinitely, as long as it stays over warm water and away from land. The former will eventually be the problem for Daniel, as he's running out of warm water at his latitude. But Daniel will be a Category 4 storm at least through tomorrow.
