Bud's Bitter End / Carlotta's Comeback

As expected, both Bud and Carlotta continued to fade into tropical storms today. Bud is now a pathetic ghost of his former self, just barely hanging on to tropical storm status with 40 mph winds. Carlotta had been looking like she would do the same, falling off to a 70 mph tropical storm today, but she has suddenly rebounded back to hurricane status with a burst of convection. She's even getting an eye back. Intensity of hurricanes is still poorly understood, and there's no good known explanation for this type of behavior, even though it's been seen on occasion before.
