Daniel cruises along / Emilia springs up

Daniel is still steadily plowing westward as an impressive annular hurricane. Since taking on this form, he has kept up steady 150 mph winds, and remained a Category 4 hurricane. He is expected to start leaving the area of warmest seas soon, and will then slowly begin losing strength.

The disturbance behind Daniel has finally organized into Tropical Storm Emilia. Emilia is moving to the northwest right now as a subtropical ridge is keeping her offshore of Mexico. Forecasters are currently questioning her future track a bit. The question of where she will go depends on how high convection from the storm will penetrate into the atmosphere. If the shear relaxes enough for Emilia to gain some height, she'll keep bumping along the ridge, and stay offshore. However, if the shear stays a bit stronger, and she keeps a low profile, she may be able to duck under the ridge and come ashore in Mexico. The situation will be watched over the next day to determine a better idea of the track.
